Wreaths and flowers are the traditional way to honour servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in times of war. Lest we forget.
Who will you remember on Australia’s national day of remembrance? Marking the beginning of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I, ANZAC Day is a time to pause and honour the sacrifice of all Australians who have served and died in military service.
On or before April 25th, you may wish to pay tribute to an ANZAC in your family or community with farm-fresh memorial flowers, or a floral wreath.
The Dawn Service is held at the time of the Gallipoli landings and is traditionally marked by deep reflection and contemplation. Wreaths and floral tributes are symbolically laid at memorials, graves and overseas at battle sites to honour the fallen, and celebrate the future which their sacrifice helped secure.
If ordering a wreath to lay at a war memorial, such as the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, or a local site like the Anzac Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park, choose your wreath based on the tribute you’d like to make.
For patriotic tributes to the ANZAC memory or for a truly Australian commemoration of the ANZAC sacrifice, you may wish to choose a wreath of native flowers. Fragrant and styled in the image of the Australian bush, native wreaths are bound with proteas, banksia, leucadendrons and other iconic Aussie blooms.
White memorial wreaths overflowing with creamy roses and tasteful Oriental lilies are a dignified tribute to the ANZAC memory. The colour symbolises purity, honesty and innocence, virtues often associated with military service. If an ancestor served in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC), white is a colour closely associated with nurses and doctors, another reason you may choose a wreath of white flowers in tribute to their memory.
You can lay a memorial wreath at any of the ANZAC Day services across Australia, including those held at:
- Sydney: ANZAC Day March at Martin Place
- Canberra: Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial
- Melbourne: Dawn Service and March at the Shrine of Remembrance
Know someone marching in the service? Honour their continued commitment to the defence of Australia with a surprise bouquet as a show of support, or a wreath for them to lay down in memory of the ANZACs.
ANZAC Day isn’t just a ceremony of remembrance, it is also a celebration of the future our fallen servicemen and women sacrificed their lives to protect. Marches, dinners and events are usually organised by Returned Services League (RSL) clubs to honour local ANZACs and celebrate those currently serving in the armed forces.
With this in mind, there’s no reason why you can’t make a colourful tribute to an ancestor who died in war. Our range of floral wreaths includes a beautifully designed tribute of seasonal flowers including gorgeous pink roses, tulips and more.
For those wishing to celebrate the service of a friend or relative still living, any of our stylish bouquets or floral arrangements will let them know you recognise their service to the Australian nation.
